Are EcoSmart Fire fireplaces suitable for commercial applications?

Yes, EcoSmart Fire commercial fireplaces are specified across hospitality and commercial projects worldwide, from hotel lobbies and restaurants to bars, offices and corporate foyers. The bioethanol range is engineered to the same standards whether installed in a private residence or a high-traffic venue, and carries the certifications specifiers require: UL 1370 (O-TL listed) in North America, BSI Certification to EN 16647 in Europe and the UK, and compliance with the ACCC Safety Mandate in Australia.

How long has EcoSmart Fire been designing bioethanol fireplaces?

EcoSmart Fire bioethanol fireplaces have been in design and production for more than 20 years, with the brand recognised as a category pioneer since the early 2000s. The BK5, EcoSmart Fire's original and award-winning ethanol burner, won a Design Mark at the 2004 Australian International Design Awards in Sydney, establishing the brand's reputation for considered ethanol fire design.

Two decades of continuous research and development sit behind every current model, paired with third-party certification to UL 1370 (USA), EN 16647 BSI (Europe and UK), and the ACCC Safety Mandate (Australia). That heritage is the reason architects, designers, and homeowners specify EcoSmart Fire bioethanol fireplaces as long-term investment pieces rather than passing design features.

What is e-NRG bioethanol fuel and why does EcoSmart Fire use it?

e-NRG bioethanol fuel is the purpose-formulated liquid bioethanol that EcoSmart Fire specifies for its ethanol burner range, chosen because fuel quality directly shapes how the flame performs, how long it lasts, and how safely the appliance operates.

EcoSmart burners are engineered around liquid bioethanol and require a consistent, compatible fuel to perform as designed. Burn performance varies with fuel composition, which is why the certifications that sit behind EcoSmart appliances, UL 1370 in the USA, EN 16647 BSI in Europe and the UK, and the ACCC Safety Mandate in Australia, assume an approved fuel in the burner. Using e-NRG keeps those engineered tolerances intact.

Responsible use is part of the package. Every EcoSmart Fire order includes a Jerry Can with Safety Spout for decanting, and filling should always be done in a well-ventilated space away from ignition sources.

What makes EcoSmart Fire fireplaces different from traditional fireplaces?

EcoSmart Fire fireplaces differ from traditional wood and gas fireplaces in their structural simplicity, installation requirements, efficiency, and combustion cleanliness. They require no chimney, flue, gas line, or external venting, a fundamental structural advantage that changes how they are engineered and installed.

Traditional fireplaces demand significant structural modification: chimneys create loading requirements, flues must be vented externally, and gas models require utility connections and specialist fitting. EcoSmart Fire's bioethanol burners install as self-contained units with zero-clearance construction, fitting directly into wall cavities just 365 mm [14.4 in] deep, or standing freely. Installation is measured in hours, not weeks, with no trades beyond basic carpentry or cabinetry work.

Efficiency distinguishes them further. Traditional wood fireplaces lose substantial heat through their chimneys; gas fireplaces release heat via flues. EcoSmart Fire achieves over 90% fuel efficiency; all combustion heat stays in the room. There is no soot, smoke, or ash to clean; bioethanol burns to heat, water vapour, and CO₂ only. This means no sooty ceilings, no ash disposal, no chimney sweeping.

EcoSmart Fire burners carry third-party certifications (UL 1370, EN16647, ACCC) for ventless combustion safety. The technology's ventless design opens installations where traditional fireplaces cannot go: apartments, high-rise buildings, spaces without external walls, or anywhere structural modifications are impractical. This design flexibility, enabled by the fuel's clean combustion and safety certifications, represents the most significant departure from traditional heating.

How much does it cost to run an EcoSmart Fire fireplace per hour?

The cost to run an EcoSmart Fire fireplace is calculated by multiplying the burner's consumption rate in litres per hour by the current price of e-NRG bioethanol per litre in your market. At maximum output, consumption ranges from 0.31 L/h [0.08 gal/h] for the smallest compact burner to 1.10 L/h [0.29 gal/h] for the largest, so a full flame on a mid-sized burner draws roughly 0.5 to 0.9 L/h.

Running cost is not fixed, and that is the point. Adjustable baffles let you dial flame height down from maximum, and at lower settings, the same fill can extend burn time from around 5 to 6 hours up to 14 hours, depending on burner size and setting. You pay for the flame level you use, not a preset output. Using e-NRG at 96 to 97% alcohol content keeps combustion consistent, which makes hourly cost predictable rather than drifting with fuel quality.

There is no flue, no gas line, and no connection to mains infrastructure, which means the running cost sits against an installation profile that avoids those recurring upfront expenses entirely. For a precise hourly figure, multiply your burner's consumption rate by the current e-NRG price per litre in your market.

How is bioethanol fuel made and why is it sustainable?

Bioethanol is made by fermenting renewable plant sugars or starches, typically from sugar cane, grain, or corn, with yeast. The fermentation produces ethanol and carbon dioxide; the raw ethanol is then distilled to 99.5% purity and dehydrated to below 0.5% water content, ensuring the consistency required for safe indoor combustion. Production by-products are repurposed: CO2 is captured for industrial use; agricultural residues become animal feed or additional energy.

The sustainability logic rests on a closed-loop carbon cycle. CO2 released during combustion is offset by CO2 absorbed during plant growth, resulting in net-zero emissions over time. Because feedstocks regenerate annually, bioethanol achieves a substantially lower carbon footprint than fossil fuels. First-generation bioethanol (from food crops) reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 50-80% versus petrol; second-generation (from agricultural residue) achieves 80%+ reduction.

For EcoSmart Fire, this matters beyond the environmental case. Clean combustion produces only heat, water vapour, and CO2: no smoke, soot, or ash, eliminating the need for a chimney or ventilation ductwork. This gives architects and homeowners complete design freedom: fireplaces can sit island-style, within walls, or beneath ceilings without structural constraint. EcoSmart Fire burners are engineered around bioethanol's precise combustion properties, ensuring safe and consistent performance across every installation.
